if i can’t study coral

If I couldn’t be a marine biologist I wanted to be a painter.
When I realized there was no money in painting, 
I waited tables on the patio, took a class about wine,
mixed martinis on Saturdays and fell in love twice.

I wanted to be a criminal psychologist.
But I’d kill myself surely.
It is ineffective to seek answers to questions
that are not problematic at the start.
